Learn your options to fight Tennessee's strict DUI penalties

In one of our previous blog posts, we discussed how alcohol can affect driving abilities. Those effects are some of the reasons why Tennessee has such strict penalties for a person who is convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol. We know that you don't want a DUI charge to ruin your holiday season, so you must learn about your defense options if you are facing a criminal charge for drunk driving.

All drunk driving convictions in the state carry the penalty of time in jail. On a first offense, you face at least 48 hours in jail with a maximum of 11 months and 29 days behind bars. That increases with each subsequent DUI conviction. A person who is convicted of a fourth DUI faces 1 year in jail with a minimum of 150 consecutive days required.

We know that facing time in jail isn't something that you are looking forward to. We can't promise you that you won't have to spend time in jail, but we can work hard on your behalf to present a defense that shows your side of the case.

In some cases, we might be able to use circumstances that occurred during the traffic stop or arrest to show that your rights were violated. Even if that didn't occur, you still have defense options to consider. In some cases, you might be eligible to complete an alcohol and drug diversion program as part of a plea deal that would dismiss the charge when you complete it successfully.

If you are facing a DUI, you must work quickly to explore your options. The longer you wait, the less time you have to try to work something out for your case.
