Tennessee man faces criminal charges, accused of drunk driving

A 20-year-old man was arrested recently for a slew of alleged criminal matters. Authorities claim that the man was driving drunk on Highway 394 when he attempted to pass a car in the highway's center lane. During the attempted pass the car, the man reportedly hit another car, causing its driver to suffer injuries.

Police claim that they attempted to stop the alleged drunk driver but that he fled, causing them to pursue him during which a law enforcement official also allegedly suffered physical injuries. When the man was caught he was charged with DUI, underage consumption, aggravated assault and resisting arrest.

Any one of these criminal charges is serious but together they present this young man with a difficult legal battle to fight. He may have evidence of intoxication from his arrest to overcome; in drunk driving cases police officers can perform a number of assessments on suspects to determine their levels of intoxication.

With the help of a criminal defense lawyer this man may have options for negotiating his charges down to lesser infractions or even presenting defenses to the many charges brought against him. During his criminal trial he will have the opportunity to present his own evidence, question witnesses and formulate his own theory of what happened during the events of his arrest. Prosecutors in criminal cases such as this one must meet burdens of proof in order to secure convictions against those who are charged, and if this man and his criminal defense representatives are successful in their efforts, he may avoid some or all of the punishments associated with his alleged crimes.
